On the Effect of the Electrical Load on Vibration Energy Harvesting Under Stochastic Resonance

Abstract Vibration energy harvesting (VEH) is a promising alternative for powering wireless electronics in many practical applications. Ambient vibration the surrounding space of target application often involves an inescapable randomness exciting vibrations, which may lead to deterioration expected power gains due insufficient tuning and limited optimal designs. Stochastic resonance (SR) concept that has recently been considered exploiting this toward improving generation from vibrating systems, based on coexistence near-harmonic vibrations with broadband noise excitations variety mechanical systems. This paper concerned conditions SR harvesters, exploring frequently neglected effect realistic architectures electrical circuit system dynamics achievable output. A parametric study conducted using numerical path integration (PI) method compute response probability density functions (PDFs) focusing standard components; namely, load resistor, rectifier, capacitor. It found exhibit nonlinear dependence weak harmonic excitation amplitude. Moreover, modified dissipation properties introduced by rectifier capacitor tradeoff between output nonconducting essential order determine
